European teams close World Championships with more medals

 

The 2025 World Fencing Championships in Tbilisi concluded today after a week of fierce battles on the piste, with European nations once again at the forefront. France sealed the final day with a commanding victory in women’s sabre, while Hungary stood proudly on the podium in both women’s sabre and men’s épée.

Golden finish for France

The French women’s sabre team of Sara Balzer, Faustine Clapier, Sarah Noutcha, and Toscane Tori delivered a flawless performance, overcoming Korea in the final to claim gold. This triumph marked France’s second world title of the tournament and highlighted their remarkable depth and dominance in the discipline.

Hungary also celebrated a strong result in women’s sabre, with Sugar Katinka Battai, Renata Katona, Liza Pusztai, and Luca Szucs fighting their way to bronze, capping off a memorable championship campaign.

Hungary shines again in épée

Hungary’s men’s épée team—Tibor Andrásfi, Zsombor Keszthelyi, Máté Tamás Koch, and Gergely Siklósi—added another medal to their nation’s tally. Their powerful run through the tableau brought them to the gold medal match, where they narrowly lost to Japan, securing silver and reaffirming Hungary’s status as one of the leading épée nations.
