Closing a Memorable World Championships
The 2025 World Fencing Championships in Tbilisi have drawn to a close, leaving behind a remarkable chapter in the sport’s history. Over a week of intense battles, spectacular comebacks, and thrilling finals, European nations once again showcased their dominance and depth on the world stage.
EFC nations claimed an impressive 29 of the 42 medals awarded, including 7 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze, proving the strength of European fencing across all weapons and categories. France and Italy led the charge with six medals each, with France taking the top spot in the medal rankings. Hungary followed closely, also with six medals, further underlining Europe’s competitive edge. Beyond these powerhouses, the success of Ukraine, Estonia, Poland, Georgia, and Romania brought diversity and richness to the continent’s medal count, proving that excellence in fencing runs deep across Europe.
EFC President Pascal Tesch summed up the collective pride of the European fencing community: “This remarkable result is a testament to the professionalism, dedication, and sportsmanship of our fencers, coaches, and national federations. We are deeply proud of what EFC nations have accomplished here in Tbilisi.”
